2009 was Mendelssohn’s anniversary year and this has occasioned Henle to publish in addition to the already existing “Songs without Words” HN 327 nearly all of his piano compositions in two new extensive volumes (HN 860 and HN 861). All of the havebeen meticulously revised and extensive commentaries reflect the latest in scholarly research. Thus Henle is able to offer a comprehensive Urtext edition of Mendelssohn’s piano works that is unique in this form. It replaces the previous volume ofselected piano works (HN 281).
